Lagos Govt, transport company discuss community ambulance project

The Lagos State Government is considering a collaboration with Simba Group Companies on a community ambulance initiative aimed at improving emergency medical mobility in hard-to-reach areas.

The initiative, which involves the deployment of tricycle ambulances, is designed to enhance access to emergency medical services in rural and underserved communities, according to the transport company’s proposal.

The delegation, led by Kamkesh Pitale and Charles Okah, met with the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, at the Ministry’s office in Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday. During the visit, Simba Group presented a three-wheeler ambulance and a specially designed tricycle, expressing interest in partnering with the government to expand the project’s reach and impact across the state.

The group said the tricycle-based ambulance raises community awareness of emergency medical services, fosters public trust, and can serve as a first-response vehicle in offices, primary healthcare centres, medical outreach programmes, and public spaces such as football pitches.

Responding to the proposal, Osiyemi welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely and innovative approach to improving emergency mobility in communities. He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s openness to private-sector collaboration to enhance public service delivery.

The Commissioner added that further technical discussions would be undertaken to ensure that any prospective partnership aligns fully with the State’s transportation policies, regulatory framework, and safety standards, while addressing the unique mobility challenges across Lagos.
