As part of efforts to combat environmental disturbances, the Lagos State Government, through its Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), has sealed no fewer than 26 bars and lounges for contravening the noise pollution law in the Lekki axis of the state.
The establishments were sealed after failing to comply with the noise standards approved under state law, despite warnings from the agency.
The sealed bars along Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1 include Farm City, Kingfisher, Light House Bar and Grill, E-Bar Metro, Native Tray, Medusa Lekki, The Corner, Ivy Bar, Bayrock, Bay Lounge, Beer Barn, Savor Lounge, Sailors Lounge, Circa Lagos, Mabaya Lounge, and LIIT Social House.
Also sealed during the enforcement exercise on Wednesday were D Code Exclusive Lounge, Terraform Restaurant and Bar, Red Bar, Bolivar, The Mood Lagos, HQ Rooftop Lounge, Rango Rooftop Lounge, Switch 1922 Lounge and Grill, The Peacock Lagos, and HOV.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this in a statement released on his official social media handle, stated that the establishments were sealed to enforce compliance with environmental regulations.
Wahab noted that the exercise, carried out by LASEPA officials, was aimed at tackling noise pollution and other environmental infractions.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of facilities adhering to environmental laws as part of the government’s commitment to creating a harmonious and sustainable environment for all Lagos residents.
The Lagos State Government will not tolerate any form of environmental infraction; prosecution will be in line with the extant laws of the state,” Wahab added.
