The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has taken its advocacy efforts to Ijora Community in Apapa-Iganmu, with a sensitization program aimed at addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and promoting parental guidance in sexual discipline.
The event, held on November 16, brought together parents, youths, and children for an interactive session on these critical issues and how to seek help during these cases .
Speaking at the event, the DSVA Community Engagement Officer, Akinde Olatosin emphasized the vital role of parents in instilling sexual discipline in their children.
He stressed the importance of open communication, positive role modeling, education, and trust-building within families.
Highlighting the dangers of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), he emphasized the importance of breaking the silence around such incidents and encouraged participants to utilize the agency’s toll-free line to report SGBV cases and seek assistance.
Additionally, he warned against the growing threats of revenge porn and the negative effects of children’s exposure to nudity.
Also present at the event was Ayodeji Nathaniel, a specialized Counselor and Clinical Psychologist, who offered expert counseling and support to participants.
He provided guidance on sexual health, relationships, and general wellness, while encouraging confidential reporting and supportive listening for those facing domestic or sexual violence.
Meanwhile, the Founder, LAB Foundation, Lukman Barakat, commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to SGBV awareness and pledged her organization’s support in future collaborations with the DSVA to tackle these societal challenges.
