Lagos Govt. demolishes distressed, illegal buildings inside Trade fair complex

As part of efforts to restore the Lagos master plan, the State Government has begin the demolition of illegal and distressed buildings inside the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitness narrated that bulldozers were seen pulling down structures that have been marked earlier by the government for contravening laws guiding constructions in the state.

The structure owners and traders said to have watched in disbelieve as the state government bulldozers turned places that were previously occupied by buildings to plane grounds.

The Guild gathered that the move was embarked upon by the government to prevent cases of collapsed building that often claim lives and property worth millions of naira in the state.

The action embarked upon by the government came less than 24 hours after a two-storey building caved in around Mangoro axis of Ikeja Local Governments in Lagos.

The action was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, through a video shared on his official social media handle on Thursday.

Gawat added that the ongoing demolition is a joint exercise being carried out by different agencies of the state government saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the real estate sector of Lagos remain safe for Lagosians and visitors.

According to him, “Lagos State Government begins removal of illegal development, structures without statutory approvals and defective structures and structures built on road setback and drainages in the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo Local Government area.

“Office the Lagos State Urban Development, Ministry of Physical Planning, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Office of Infrastructure including the Honorable Members of the Lagos House of Assembly are here present including Security Agencies”.
