The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has announced the temporary closure of all ferry terminals to facilitate the hosting of the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament.
According to LASWA, the closure is intended to allow for uninterrupted operations throughout the tournament period, with the Lagos series scheduled to take place along the Five Cowries Creek.
The tournament will run from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, after which normal operations at the affected jetties and terminals will resume on October 6.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit on Monday, LASWA confirmed that all private and commercial jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek will remain closed throughout the event.
The Waterways Authority explained that the restriction is a crucial safety and security measure aimed at ensuring seamless operations, protecting lives, and showcasing Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events.
LASWA appealed to all waterway users to cooperate by utilizing alternative ferry routes and making necessary travel arrangements in advance.
The Lagos State Government also expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding, noting that the temporary adjustments are essential to successfully deliver this historic world championship.
