Lagos Govt. arrests 40 hoodlums around Yaba overpass bridge

By Monsurudeen Olowoopejo

The Lagos State Government has arrested no fewer than 40 suspected hoodlums around the newly constructed Yaba overpass bridge in Ebute Meta area of the state.

They were arrested following complaints from members of the public about the activities of criminals who waylay passersby and dispossess them of their belongings on the facility.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who disclosed this on Friday through a statement made available to newsmen, said the arrest serves as a stern warning that criminal activities targeting Lagosians, particularly in critical transport areas, will not be tolerated.

Osiyemi added that the arrest demonstrated the government unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of its residents.

He disclosed that the shanties serving as hideouts for the suspects have been demolished, with the area placed under continuous surveillance, exemplifying government’s proactive stance on public safety.

Osiyemi further reiterated government’s ongoing collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including Law Enforcement Agencies, to safeguard the well-being of all citizens.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the relevant authorities or through the Ministry of Transportation hotlines: 09020004000 or 09020009000.

The Commissioner stressed that the State Government will continue to implement strategic measures to combat criminal activities and uphold public safety.
