The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) has traced the source of the fire at old Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) to the IT Server Room, though the exact cause is yet to be determined.
According to the service, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire started in the IT Server Room on one of the floors of the E-Wing Departure Lounge, spreading to the adjoining Radio Communication Room.
The blaze was contained through coordinated multi-agency efforts, preventing further damage to other sections of the building still under reconstruction, despite initial challenges in accessing the seat of the fire.
The emergency service Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed this while giving updates on the inferno, which cause is yet to be ascertained, she noted that all 12 personnel within the Control Tower were safely rescued.
In addition, six others rescued from other sections of the terminal sustained injuries but are in stable condition
She added that ongoing investigations are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the inferno, with a detailed report expected in due course.
