The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Surah Animashaun, has revoked the indefinite suspension placed on Eid-I-Adha celebrations in the Epe Community, following the public outcry that had trailed the decision imposed to calm the tension over who become next Olu of Epe.
Animashaun restricted prayers in two community mosques in a move to prevent security threats that may be posed by followers of two individuals who have been parading themselves as the traditional ruler in the community following the passing of Olu-Epe, Oba Shefiu Adewale, recently.
With the suspension lifted, Animashaun urged vigilance and encouraged residents to partake in Eid-I-Adha celebrations at the 1st Epe Central Mosque and Eid Ground.
Animashaun informed that Muslim faithfuls in the area can offer their supplications to God at the community mosques. She added that the local council will not deprive the residents their religious rights.
The council chairman added that proactive measures are needed to ensure peace and harmony in the community and enjoined the residents to imbibe in themselves the teachings of the Holy Book of Ramadan and be law abiding during the festivities.
The council boss reassured the residents that the issue of who becomes the new Olu of Epe will be addressed soon.
The previous suspension was enacted due to the ongoing Olu-Epe Elect dispute, which had caused tensions among residents.
Animashaun, meanwhile, addressed the dispute by instructing High Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji and Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro to stop identifying themselves as Olu Epe Elect.
