Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to triple the votes gotten during the last general poll by President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming elections in the country.
It stated that strategic plans have been mapped out to ensure that the president gets more than what was realised in the 2023 election during the 2027 exercise, saying this will be our show of appreciation to the administration’s efforts to give Nigerians dividends of democracy.
Following the party members’ promise, Tinubu may poll over 1.5 million votes from Lagos, considering that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recorded less than 600,000 votes for the APC during the 2023 presidential election, with the Labour Party polling more votes than the Lagos State former governor, Tinubu.
The party gave the assurance after the 36-member State Working Committee (SWC) assumed office, following their swearing-in ceremony on Friday in Ikeja, the state capital.
Addressing pressmen on behalf of the SWC, the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed that the party is going after residents, particularly youths who are yearning to join the party, with the opportunity to do so.
Aside from that, Ojelabi hinted that the Lagos APC has concluded plans on programmes that would ensure that residents, irrespective of their religion and ethnicity, cast their votes for the ruling party during the general election across the state.
He emphasised the need to reciprocate the support given by Tinubu, whom it credited with creating political platforms for members across the board to thrive, as well as driving monumental development through the creation of additional council areas in the state.
According to him, that was why I said, after our inauguration, that the executives were assuming office at a critical time when the party is preparing to conduct primaries for the selection of candidates who would represent the APC on the ballots for the 2027 general elections.
“All eyes are on the new leadership, and the key question is whether they will strengthen the party’s achievements and sustain its dominance since 1999”.
Admonishing the members, Ojelabi stressed that a united executive is the key towards achieving victory in 2027, saying you all have to withdraw your membership from any caucus and work collectively for the overall success of the party at the polls.
The APC chairman also advised members of the executive council to regularly attend ward and local government meetings, stressing that the party must operate as one family to secure victory in 2027.
He assured that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would provide an enabling environment to boost the party’s performance in the forthcoming elections.
