Kidnappers holding the wife of a Nasarawa-based pastor, along with a church member, have demanded a staggering N50 million ransom for the safe release of their victims.
The demand came barely 24 hours after the wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu of Word of God Church, who is breastfeeding a three-month-old baby, and the church member, who had come to visit her family after a service, were kidnapped in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to relatives who disclosed the kidnappers’ conditions on Tuesday, the victims are enduring harrowing treatment at the hands of their captors.
Relatives revealed that the captives have been forced to trek long distances through the forest while facing inhumane treatment.
“She is emotionally shattered and physically weak. Being torn away from her baby has left her broken beyond words,” a family member said, describing the pastor’s wife’s plight to reporters.
It was learnt that the captors allowed a brief phone call during which the distressed mother wept uncontrollably, pleading for rescue from the kidnappers’ den.
While the abductors have refused to negotiate the ransom amount, the families insist that the N50 million demand is far beyond their means.
“This is an outrageous amount. We don’t even know where to begin,” the victim’s husband lamented, appealing to security agencies to intervene.
Residents of the affected community have joined the call for urgent government action, including assistance from security agencies to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“We cannot allow another tragedy to happen. Authorities must step in before it’s too late,” a concerned resident told newsmen.
