Katsina principal in police custody over school property theft

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested the principal and former vice principal of Government Secondary School, Shargalle, in Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina State over the alleged theft of school property.

It was gathered that the case, which has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, is linked to an incident that occurred on January 19, 2026, when unknown persons reportedly broke into the school at about 6:00 a.m. and carted away inverter batteries and other laboratory equipment.

According to the police, the suspects, Musa, 58, of Shadambu Low Cost, Daura, and former vice principal Abubakar Aliyu, 48, of Shargalle, were arrested following investigations that linked them to the crime.

Items recovered from the principal’s residence include four solar panels, five desktop computers, three CPU units, one solar battery, one printer, and two hair clippers, all said to belong to the school.

ā€œAll recovered items have been identified as school property and are currently being held as exhibits,ā€ a police source said.

The source added that one of the suspects has confessed to the act, while efforts are ongoing to determine the extent of collaboration and recover other missing items.

Police authorities stated that investigations are still ongoing, noting that additional arrests may follow as the case progresses.
