The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin re-joined the party he left in 2022 following his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) two months earlier over allegations of anti-party activities and failure to meet financial obligations to the party.
His defection comes after months of internal tension, speculation, and silence regarding his political direction, despite his visible closeness to President Bola Tinubu and subtle hints that he would eventually align with the ruling party.
Announcing his decision through his verified social media platforms on Monday, Abdulmumin said his base had unanimously resolved to leave the NNPP and abandon the Kwankwasiyya movement, adding that their loyalty would now be directed toward ensuring President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents,” he wrote. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.”
He also disclosed that more than 2,000 Islamic clerics had offered special prayers for President Tinubu, as well as for peace and prosperity in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and the country at large.
Jibrin, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to the NNPP for the support he received during his time with the party and urged his supporters to join him on his ‘new journey,’ while encouraging peaceful relations with those who remain in the party.
“I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake,” he said. “I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters.”
