Kano Gov. sacks investment commissioner over poor performance

Governor Abba Yusuf has dismissed Shehu Sagagi, the state’s Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, citing unsatisfactory performance and the need to improve administrative efficiency.

The governor ordered the immediate removal of Sagagi from office and directed him to hand over all official responsibilities to the Director of Commerce in the ministry, pending further government directives.

According to the state government, the decision is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional performance and ensure that key ministries deliver results aligned with the administration’s development priorities.

In a statement released on Thursday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, said the administration remains committed to maintaining a results-driven governance structure.

“The government is determined to reposition critical sectors for improved productivity and service delivery,” the statement said. “Reorganisation within the cabinet is aimed at ensuring that ministries operate with the level of efficiency required to achieve the administration’s goals.”

The governor also acknowledged Sagagi’s contributions during his tenure, noting his role in initiatives related to political engagement, religious outreach, and programmes supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).

“The governor appreciates the former commissioner’s efforts while in office and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” the statement added.

The leadership change is part of a broader administrative review intended to enhance performance across government institutions and promote sustainable development.
