Kano Gov. reshuffles cabinet to boost governance

By Awoniyi Ademide

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reshuffled his cabinet to enhance the administration’s ability to achieve its policy objectives and reposition key ministries for stronger performance in service delivery.

The governor’s decision to carry out a minor reshuffle aims to boost the effectiveness of commissioners by assigning them to ministries where their strengths can be better utilized.

Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement issued yesterday, noting that the shake-up affected key ministries, including Justice, Transport, Environment, and Humanitarian Affairs.

As part of the reshuffle, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi, has been redeployed to head the Ministry of Transport.

Meanwhile, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mustapha Muhammad, has been reassigned to serve as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, who had been overseeing the Transport Ministry on an interim basis, will now return to focus solely on his original portfolio.

Governor Yusuf also directed that all affected officials complete their handover procedures to senior officers by Tuesday, September 23.

Commenting on the development, the governor emphasized that the reshuffle was in the overall interest of the state.

“This administration is committed to ensuring that our ministries are well-structured to meet the expectations of our people. These changes are not about individuals but about enhancing governance and fulfilling our promises,” the governor stated.
