Muslim faithful in Kano State will have the opportunity to pause and reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declares a public holiday to mark this year’s Maulud celebration.
The Governor urged residents to approach the occasion with a spirit of peace, unity, and devotion, encouraging them to not only celebrate but to deeply reflect on the life and values of the Prophet.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the state government announced that Friday, September 12, equivalent to the 19th of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447 AH, has been officially declared a public holiday.
“The State Government encourages everyone to use this blessed day to offer special prayers for peace, prosperity, and the continued development of Kano State and Nigeria as a whole,” Waiya stated.
Residents were also reminded to uphold the values of tolerance, unity, and respect for lawful authority while participating in the celebrations.
Maulud, celebrated annually by Muslim communities, marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Observances may vary across sects, but typically include special prayers, religious lectures, and acts of charity to honor the Prophet’s life and teachings.
