A Federal High Court in Kaduna State has sentenced a TikToker and social media personality, Muhammad Kabir, to six months jail term for defacing the Nigerian currency in a widely circulated video online.
Kabir was sentenced by the judge after pleading guilty to the charges levelled against him before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Upon admission yesterday, Justice R.M Aikawa handed down a six-month prison term with the option of a N300,000 fine, payable to the Federal Government.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, M.U. Gadaka, who acted on the young man’s admittance, requested that the court issue a conviction and impose a sentence.
The official charge read in part: “That you, Muhammad Kabir Sa’ad (also known as @youngcee0066), in 2025 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, unlawfully mutilated the Naira by stepping on the banknotes while recording and uploading the video to social media, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, and punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.”
The convicted, Kabir, who is active on TikTok and Instagram under the handle @youngcee0066, was captured on video spreading Naira notes on the ground, stepping on them, and uttering inflammatory remarks in Hausa.
In the widely circulated footage, he boldly challenged the EFCC to arrest him at a known address. Upon the video getting to the crimes commission, the agency swung into action, located Kabir and arrested him, which led to his
arraignment on a one-count amended charge related to the desecration of the national currency.
