After days of denial, the Kaduna Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 137 worshippers from their church in parts of Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.
The law enforcement agency, in coordination with Christian association leaders, has released identities of 137 worshippers abducted during the attacks, marking a decisive shift from earlier denials from the State Government.
Moreover, the police disclosure through a statement made available to newsmen by Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday followed days of public dispute over whether mass kidnappings occurred during church services in Southern Kaduna or not.
The Police, meanwhile, disclosed that investigations revealed that the armed assailants stormed worship centres, forcing congregants into surrounding bush paths in coordinated operations.
Confirming the development, the police force said the abducted worshippers’ list was compiled after cross-checks with church registers, community leaders, and families of the victims.
They added that the release was intended to “clarify the scale of the incident, counter misinformation, and aid rescue and investigation efforts,” the spokesperson said.
Church officials, however, stressed that the publication of names underscores the human toll of the attack rather than just statistics.
“These are not numbers; these are fathers, mothers, children, and entire families taken in one night,” a senior church leader said, urging security agencies to accelerate rescue operations.
Furthermore, the command said tactical units and intelligence teams remain deployed across the affected areas, while search-and-rescue efforts continue in collaboration with the military and local vigilantes.
Police also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified figures, noting that investigations are ongoing.
