The Kaduna State Government through its fire service has recorded no fewer one death and 20 fire outbreaks in August.
It stated that the fire outbreaks were recorded in Kaduna, Zaria and in Kafanchan.
The Director, the Kaduna State Fire Service,
Paul Aboi, said that one person also sustained injuries while another was rescued unhurt.
Aboi, speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, in Kaduna, disclosed that properties worth N171,000 were saved from destruction within the period while properties worth N30,000 were destroyed.
The director noted that a reduction in fire outbreaks in the state and said public enlightenment and heavy rains in the month of August contributed to the reduction.
He said that 70 per cent of fire incidents in the state resulted from carelessness on the part of residents, adding that most of the incidents were caused by electrical faults.
Aboi urged the state government to ensure that all local government areas were equipped with fire fighting facilities and appealed to residents to ensure they had fire extinguishers in their homes.
