JUST IN: Youths shut C.A.C headquarters over NYCN deregistration

Activities at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have been brought to a halt after thousands of youths blocked the agency’s main gate, demanding a reversal of the deregistration of the National Youth Council of Nigeria’s (NYCN) certificate.

The demonstration came barely 24 hours after CAC revoked the registration certificate previously granted to the NYCN over a prolonged leadership crisis affecting the council.

The CAC’s decision was allegedly influenced by the Federal Government after all efforts to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the council proved abortive.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, called for the swift restoration of the Council’s certificate and urged the removal of CAC’s Registrar General, Hussaini Magaji (SAN).

Speaking to the press at the CAC headquarters during the protest on Thursday, former NYCN Secretary General, Abubakar Suleiman, accused Magaji of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by deregistering the NYCN without awaiting a court ruling.

“We had won at the Federal High Court, which ruled that CAC has no authority to delist the Youth Council. Yet, despite a pending appeal, the Registrar General went ahead to remove our name and set up a committee to manage NYCN affairs,” he said.

Suleiman stated that the protest, planned to last for 30 days, would be repeated at CAC offices across the country until their demands are fulfilled.

He also accused the Commission of irregularities, including illegal recruitments and administrative misconduct, calling these actions “a sabotage of President Tinubu’s vision for youth development”
