President Bola Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors, comprising 31 career and 34 non-career diplomats, to various countries and the United Nations.
The nominees had previously been screened and confirmed by the Senate in December 2025, completing the legislative process necessary for their official appointment and deployment.
The Senate confirmation followed rigorous vetting of the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and suitability for diplomatic service, ensuring that both career diplomats and prominent non-career appointees meet the standards required to represent Nigeria abroad.
Confirming the ambassadors posting to their respective mission on Friday, Special Adviser to the president, Bayo Onanuga, stated that these postings mark a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence worldwide, ensuring continuity in foreign relations and representation at the United Nations.
Onanuga also disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
According to him, the ministry has also submitted nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to the respective countries, requesting agréments in accordance with international diplomatic protocols.
Onanuga further added that President Tinubu has directed that the Ministry immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners to prepare them for their duties.
