JUST IN: Super Eagles thrashes Mozambique 4-0 in AFCON

The Nigerian male national team, Super Eagles, has qualified for the quarter final after beating Mozambique 4-0 during the 2025 AFCON tournament.

The Super Eagles were clinical from the first whistle, showcasing attacking firepower and tactical cohesion against a Mozambique side making their AFCON knockout debut.

The team delivered a commanding display during the Round of 16 match on Monday played at the Complexe Sportif de Fès to secure their place in the quarter‑finals.

The scoring began in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman opened the floodgates with a precise finish inside the box after good buildup play.

Lookman’s opener set the tone for Nigeria’s relentless offensive pressure, and just five minutes later Victor Osimhen doubled the lead with a close‑range strike, putting the Super Eagles firmly in control for the first 45 minutes.

Nigeria extended their advantage early in the second half when Osimhen struck again in the 47th minute, converting a well‑placed assist to make it 3–0.

The dynamic forward was a constant threat, combining movement, strength, and clinical finishing throughout the match. Lookman continued his influence by setting up Nigeria’s fourth goal — again involving Osimhen — before the hosts sealed a resounding victory. The final goal came in the 75th minute, scored by Akor Adams.

Mozambique fought with determination but lacked the offensive firepower to trouble the Nigerian defense. Their historic knockout stage run ended in defeat, but the Mambas earned praise for reaching this stage for the first time in their history.

Meanwhile, for Nigeria, the emphatic win highlights their title ambitions and sends a strong message as they advance to face tougher competition in the quarter‑finals. With Lookman and Osimhen in red‑hot form, the Super Eagles will be confident of contending for the AFCON crown.
