JUST IN: Shetimma, Atiku, others lay former petroleum minister to rest

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, led hundreds of Muslims to lay former Petroleum Minister, Prof. Jibril Aminu, who was pronounced dead by medical experts in Abuja at the age of 85.

Shettima and Atiku, after the Don was laid to rest, described the former Minister, who also represented the Adamawa Central senatorial district in the senate, as a great loss to the nation.

They led other Muslim worshippers at the National Mosque in Abuja on Thursday to perform funeral prayers, Jana’iza, for the former United States varsity lecturer who passed away.

Shettima said: “It is a very sad loss. Prof Jubril Aminu was the last of the great titans- an iconic figure who enormously contributed to the development of the nation”.

Atiku added: “His contributions to the field of medicine, academia, and the growth of democracy in Nigeria remain legendary, and his demise is a huge loss to humanity”.

Before his demise, Aminu was a Visiting Professor of Medicine at the Howard University College Washington between 1979 and 1980, was an academic of great repute.

He was Senator of Adamawa Central (2003 to 2007) and Minister of Education (1989 to 1990). He was also Minister of Petroleum 1990 to 1992. Before joining the Senate in 2003, Professor Aminu was Nigerian Ambassador to the USA, between 1999 and 2003.
