The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom Command, Waheed Ayilara, has been laid to rest by his relatives and colleagues, amid tears and eulogies on his special style of policing while in active service.
Ayilara was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites hours after medical experts at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja pronounced him dead.
The senior police officer died on Thursday at the medical facility where he had gone for a surgery to aid him in policing Akwa Ibom state effectiveness.
Ayilara’s body was laid to rest on Thursday at Abari Cemetery in Lagos Island axis of the state by 2:00 PM
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has described the late Mr. Ayilara as “one of the finest operational officers, a fine gentleman and a reputable crime-buster. who epitomised the ideals of Nigerian Police Force.
Eno’s statement is contained in a released issued this by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, described the deceased as “a critical member of our state Security Architecture and alongside other sister security agencies, worked hard to position our state as one of the safest, secure and serene places to live, work and invest.”
According to the statement, “Today, with a heavy heart, I mourn the sudden and painful passing of our State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara.
“As we reflect on his service to Akwa Ibom State, I remember him as a distinguished and dedicated officer—one of the finest in the Nigerian Police Force. He was not only a crime-buster but also a gentleman who played a critical role in keeping our state safe and secure.
“His deep involvement in our state’s security framework and his commitment to peace will forever be remembered. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, the Inspector General of Police, and the entire Akwa Ibom State Police Command. May his soul rest in perfect peace”.
