The Anambra Police Command has arrested a hotel owner and two members of staff over alleged unlawful possession of arms, ammunition, and involvement in illicit drug activities in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The three suspects were identified as 39-year-old Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi; 26-year-old Abdullahi Shaibu; and 18-year-old Obah Chima.
The arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, through a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday.
Ikenga disclosed that the suspects were apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) after acting on credible intelligence in the late hours of February 9, 2026, and that the RRS stormed a motel in Uke, where the suspects were apprehended.
Ikenga said a search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of one Jojef pump-action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges.
“During the operation, the operatives recovered one Jojef pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges. The prime suspect, Mr. Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, confessed to the crime,” the statement read.
Further investigation, according to the police, resulted in the arrest of the two other suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Crystal Methamphetamine, Colos, and Mkpuru-mmiri.
The police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal elements and illicit drug networks in the state.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining security operations across Anambra and urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that could aid crime prevention and public safety.
“Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” Ikenga added.
The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the law enforcement agency’s investigation.
