JUST IN: PDP, LP, YPP lose 13 lawmakers to APC, ADC

By Marycelia Agim

No fewer than 12 members of the House of Representatives have switched political parties in a fresh round of defections, altering the balance between the ruling party and opposition blocs in the lower chamber.

The development saw lawmakers leave their previous parties to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reflecting ongoing political realignments within the National Assembly.

Of the 12 lawmakers, six were former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who joined the APC, while the other six, previously with the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Labour Party (LP), moved to the ADC.

The changes were announced by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who presided over Thursday’s plenary session.

During proceedings, Kalu informed lawmakers that six members had defected from the PDP to the APC, while another six had shifted from the YPP and LP to the ADC.
