Efforts by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to remain relevant ahead of the 2027 presidential election have suffered a major setback after its former spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, resigned as a member of the PDP.
Ologbondiyan said that the decision to leave the opposition party after 26 years was made following the crisis that has crippled the PDP’s ability to remain vibrant in the pursuit to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country.
In an exclusive interview with The Guild on Saturday, he stressed that the inability of the PDP leaders to address the crisis affecting unity within the party convinced him that there is a need for him to look elsewhere to maintain sanity.
The PDP’s former spokesperson, who also presented his resignation letter to The Guild correspondent, cited different cases, including the expulsion of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and eight others.
In the letter presented to the PDP chairman for Okekoko Ward 09, Kabba/Bunu Local Government of Kogi State, yesterday, Ologbondiyan noted that other reasons were for personal issues for him.
“Let me start by thanking you, as well as other levels of leadership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for the opportunities provided for me to serve the party as well as our fatherland, Nigeria.
“It is now imperative to bring your attention to the fact that I have reviewed my participation in the PDP and came to the conclusion that for personal reasons, I need to make my exit.
“I have therefore come to a decision to formally withdraw my membership of the PDP, henceforth”.
