JUST IN: Panic after fire razes Lagos petrol station

Pandemonium was said to have broken out in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State after a fuel station, A1 Petroleum station, was gutted by fire, destroying property worth several millions of Naira.

Part of the property destroyed by the inferno included the station’s tanker, which was parked inside the premises before the fire disaster occurred.

The Guild gathered on Friday that the fire disaster at the station, an independent oil dealer located on Isawo Road, off Agric Bus Stop in Ikorodu, Lagos, started at about 1 pm.

Confirming the disaster, Deputy Controller General, Olajide Ogabi, disclosed that the cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained.

Ogabi, through a short statement from the agency’s media team, stressed that emergency officials have been deployed to prevent the fire from further spreading to other adjoining stations

According to the statement, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service promptly responded to a fire outbreak at A1 Petroleum Filling Station, 15 Mukaz Avenue off Ikorodu Road, by Agric bus stop, Owutu – Ikorodu, Lagos.

“The emergency call was received at 12:58 hours regarding a 45,000-litre petroleum tanker (Registration No. IKD 479 XV), which had arrived at the station for service. While discharging its contents, the tanker unfortunately caught fire.
“Swift intervention by firefighters ensured that the blaze was contained, with no casualties recorded. The fire was restricted to the tanker and one dispensing pump out of six, effectively preventing escalation. The main station building, mart, underground storage facilities, and gas skid were preserved from damage.
“Firefighting operations were jointly carried out and successfully concluded by crews from the Ikorodu and Alausa Fire Stations.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service urges stakeholders in the oil and gas operators to uphold the highest safety standards, while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment across the State.”
