Morocco 2025 wil be my last AFCON – Mane

By Felix Kuyinu

Two-time African Cup of Nations champion, Sadio Mane, has announced that Morocco 2025 will be his last appearance in the tournament.

Mane made the disclosure following Senegal’s 1-0 win over the hosts, Morocco, which helped the Teranga Lions win the continental title, stating that the tournament would be his last dance to enable younger stars a chance to feature for the team.

The Al Nassr forward, however, held that he will be supportive to the team to see the side achieve more greatness in the round leather game.

”I would have loved to play more but I’m sorry, this is my last dance. But I will be the 12th man to support the team in their further journey in the competition,” he said on Monday.

Mane, who made his AFCON debut for Senegal in 2015, holds the record of the top scorer for Senegal, and also the second in appearances category.

The former Liverpool player has won the African Footballer of the Year award twice in 2019 and 2022. He helped the side win the AFCON title in 2021 and 2025, where he became the Player of the Tournament on both occasions.
