The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued another 48 hours ultimatum to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to send names of Commissioners and other appointees before it for screening, saying a disregard for this is going against the law in the country.
The lawmakers insisted that these nominees must undergo screening and confirmation process by the legislature as stipulated by law, a process the Assembly insists is non-negotiable.
The ultimatum issued on Wednesday has placed significant pressure on the Governor, who now faces a tight deadline to comply or risk further confrontation with the lawmakers who have become emboldened by the Supreme Court judgement on the house activities.
The Assembly condemned the formation of the state cabinet and the operation of the government with officials who had not been screened or confirmed by the legislatures in the state.
The lawmakers further described these commissioners as imposters, urging the governor to comply with the court verdict that recognised their sitting above their colleagues who were loyal to Fubara.
