JUST IN: Lagos Govt. Imposes 7-hour restriction on movements across metropolis

Ahead of this weekend council elections, the Lagos State Government has imposed a 7-hour restriction on movements during the exercise scheduled for Saturday 24th of July, 2021 across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The State Government said that the restrictions posed on movements was to enable the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) conduct a hitch-free polls for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.

Through a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Thursday, the state government said that the restriction on movement across the state was between the hours of 8a.m and 3p.m on Saturday, 24th July, 2021.
According to the government, all eligible voters are urged to participate in the elections, which require the cooperation of all residents.
The statement reads: “The restriction is to enable the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) conduct hitch-free elections into positions of Chairmen and Councillors in all the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.
“The restriction will facilitate the ease of movement of the electorate, election materials and LASIEC officials for the sanctity of the election, effective monitoring and enhanced security”.
