Atleast two patients that earlier tested positive for coronavirus in Lagos State have been confirmed dead, increasing the number of fatalities recorded in the state after the disease was discovered to 18.
Also, 74 new coronavirus cases were also confirmed in Lagos, bringing the number of confirmed cases within the state to 512, the highest in the country.
Confirming the death toll, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, in a statement on his official social media handle on Thursday, urged residents to adhere strictly to the coronavirus preventive measures outlined by medical experts globally.
He said: “Total number of confirmed #COVID19 cases in Lagos rises to 512. Lagos recorded two more COVID-19 related deaths. Total Lagos COVID-19 deaths are now 18”.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, who made this known, added that the total number of infections in Nigeria has risen to 873.
The NCDC also noted that Lagos has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
The NCDC said, “On the 22nd of April 2020, 91 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 873 cases have been confirmed, 197 cases have been discharged and 28 deaths have been recorded in Nigeria.
