Hours after the Kaduna State Government commended residents for engaging in a peaceful demonstration against Federal Government economic policies and programmes, the protests have taken a new twist with the hunger protesters returning to the streets to loot public and private properties including commercial bank, across the metropolis.
The irate demonstrators attacked and destroyed property belonging to Fidelity Bank, security patrol vehicle own by the Kaduna State Vigilance and others.
Aside from that, the demonstrators were also seen waving the Russian flag, advocating that the Eastern European country intervene in Nigeria’s crisis through sponsor of the Coup and others.
While waving the flags, they chanted different songs to express their displeasure over the state of the country’s economy and demanded an immediately fix by the federal government.
The demonstration came barely 24 hours after President Bola appealed for suspension of the hunger protest, promising to introduce and intensify the implementation of existing policies and programmes to boost the economy.
On Monday, the Guild gathered that the demonstrators attacked both public and private properties around NEPA roundabout, looting furniture and other items they could lay their hands on.
The thousands of protesters including women and children were seen armed with leaves and placards with different inscriptions bearing their concerns and demands.
During procession across the state, the protesters setup burn fire on major highways to prevent vehicular movements and forced commercial banks and other businesses to shut down operation.
The spokesman of the State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, while confirming the attack to newsmen, said that the hoodlums broke into the bank during which they carted away some valuables and also destroyed some vehicles parked within the bank premises.
Hassan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, added that the protesters set ablaze security patrol vehicle belonging to the Kaduna State Vigilance Service at Rigasa in the Igabi Local Government Area as well as the razing of the Zaria office of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA).
