JUST IN: Gunmen kill three immigration officers in Kebbi

By Awoniyi Ademide

Gunmen have killed three Nigeria Immigration Service personnel in a brutal late-night onslaught that shows the worsening security challenges confronting border communities.

The attackers launched the assault with terrifying precision, leaving a scene that eyewitnesses described as “chaotic and devastating.”

Moreover, believed to be part of a notorious criminal network operating around the northwestern corridor, the assailants, reportedly targeted the officers while they were carrying out routine duties.

A security analyst familiar with the incident said the attack reflects “a growing pattern of bold strikes against security formations,” urging authorities to strengthen surveillance across rural flashpoints.

Furthermore, details show that the attack took place on Thursday night in Bakin Ruwa, a community in the Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The armed men stormed a Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint, opened fire on the officers, and set a patrol vehicle ablaze before destroying the small shelter built for operatives on duty.

Security analyst Bakatsine, who first reported the incident on his X page on Friday morning, shared a video showing the grim aftermath.

He said the attackers were suspected Lakurawa militants. “The level of destruction is alarming,” he said. “These officers were simply carrying out their mandate when they were overpowered.”

Meanwhile, residents have since fled the area in fear of further violence, while authorities are expected to launch a manhunt for the perpetrators.

The Guild reports that the attack adds to the rising wave of assaults targeting security personnel in the region, heightening concerns about operational vulnerabilities.
