Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, shortly after the Federal High Court in Kaduna, postponed a ruling on his bail application in an ongoing corruption case.
El-Rufai’s arrest by the DSS followed the conclusion of arguments on the bail request filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), with the court choosing to defer its decision.
As gathered, he was placed into a waiting vehicle, with sources indicating that he was being transported to Abuja.
Speaking to newsmen after the proceeding, Lead defence counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), confirmed after the proceedings that the court had reserved ruling on the bail application.
According to him, both the defence and prosecution had presented their submissions before the judge.
“The bail application was argued and responded to, and the ruling has been fixed for April 14,” Iyamu said.
“We look forward to that day. We are hopeful because we have placed our arguments before the court, which remains a court of justice.”
He added that the defence team was also prepared for another matter scheduled to come up before a different court.
“That is a separate matter entirely,” Iyamu explained. “As lawyers, we are ready for the hearing. We have filed all the necessary processes and will appear in court. That particular case relates to the DSS.”
Iyamu further expressed confidence that the legal process would run its full course, noting that the defence would continue to pursue all lawful avenues in the case.
