Just In: Dozens injure, property destroy during gas explosion in Lagos

Atleast 30 people were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries and 15 vehicles destroyed when gas explosion occurred on Iju-Ajuwon road, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Lagos State.

Of the over 30 people that sustained varying degrees of injuries, 20 were adult males and 10 adult females residents of the community.

Also, 15 shops at community market and eight buildings including a church and a event center were destroyed during the explosion that ravaged the axis.

The incident was said to have been recorded at about 4:00 pm when an unknown truck conveying gas had a lone accident that led to the explosion of its content at Cele Bus Stop, few meters away from Grailand center, along Iju- Ajuwon road.

It was gathered that impact of the explosion at the scene led to fire that spread to some adjoining buildings and destroyed several vehicles parked within the perimeters of the incident.

Confirming the explosion on Thursday, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and its Lagos state counterpart, LASEMA, urged residents to stay away from the scene to avoid sustaining injuries from the fire that occurred after the explosion.

The Head, Public Affairs unit, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, added that several persons were injured during and after the explosion and that the victims have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Okunbo disclosed that incident was been tackled head-on by the combined efforts of the LASEMA Response Team led by the Director Operations, LRU Fire, LASG Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
