The Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), clearing the way for a leadership overhaul that could reshape the party’s future amid its ongoing internal crisis.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Senator Esther Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee as the partyās legitimate leadership.
In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, Justice Peter Lifu relied on the April 4, 2025, Supreme Court decision to affirm the former Minister of Finance as the valid leader of the party pending a national convention.
The court directed INEC to immediately accord recognition to the Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee as āthe only valid authority to represent the Labour Party.ā
