Chelsea, Maresca, part ways after draw against Bournemouth

By Felix Kuyinu

Chelsea Football Club have parted ways with Italian coach, Enzo Maresca, to end an 18-year managerial duty at the club following the Premier League match draw against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

The club, in a released statement to authenticate Maresca’s outster, stated that it is keen on competing on all fronts in the current campaign, hence, prompting the need for a change or gaffer following cases of unwanted match results in the season.

“Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” Chelsea said.

“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club,’ it continued.

“We wish Enzo well for the future,” the club stated.

Maresca leaves Chelsea with the fifth in the Premier League table and six months after winning the Club World Cup at the end of his first season at the London club.

The 45-year-old won just one of the team’s past seven league matches and took only six points from six games in December to fall 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Reacting, defender, Marc Cucurella, posted a message on Instagram which read: “Thank you for everything, mister, and to your staff. For the work and the trust from day one, and for the memories!

“Wishing you all the best in what comes next. Good luck, boss!”

As it stands, the Blues will face Manchester City on Sunday without a manager and it is not known who will take charge of training before then.

Caballero, who moved from Leicester alongside Maresca in 2024, deputised when the Italian served touchline bans, and with no announcement yet about his future, he could be an option.

The club held that necessary information on the managerial seat will be passed in due course.
