Just In: Buhari reappoints INEC chairman for second term

By News Desk

In recognition of his contribution to free and fair electoral processes in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for second term.

Buhari said that Yakubu’s name was preferred ahead of any other person considering the novel ideas he had over the years introduced to ensure free and fair electoral processes in the state.

In a letter to President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, yesterday, the President said that reappointment of Yakubu was in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),
He said: “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as chairman of INEC for a second and final term.”
It would be recalled that Yakubu was first appointed by the President in November 2015.
