JUST IN: Benue PDP lawmaker defects to APC over unresolved crisis

By Awoniyi Ademide

The opposition’s ranks in the National Assembly have been further weakened as Hon. Ojema Ojotu, representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, defects from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ojotu explained that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by “persistent divisions and unresolved crises” that have crippled the party’s effectiveness and alienated its members from their constituents.

According to him, remaining in such an environment would have hindered his ability to deliver quality representation and meaningful development to his people.

The defection was formally announced during Tuesday’s plenary session at the House of Representatives, where the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, read Ojotu’s letter and welcomed him to the APC fold.

“I joined the APC because I believe in a structure that prioritises stability, progress, and inclusive governance,” Ojotu stated.

“The internal wrangling in my former party made it impossible to serve effectively or connect with the aspirations of my people.”

His move is the latest in a series of defections rocking the PDP, especially in Benue State, where leadership tussles and factional battles have continued to erode the party’s strength.
