JUST IN: Akwa Ibom gov leaves PDP for APC

By Cletus Asoquo

Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), confirming a move that had long been expected amid a wave of defections sweeping across the country.

His defection comes just a week after he reportedly warned members of his cabinet to either follow him to the APC or risk losing their positions.

The defection came during a meeting held at the Government house in Uyo on Friday, where Governor Eno was received by top-ranking APC officials, including senate president God’swill Akpabio, State governors And members of the party national working committee.

Sources confirm that high-level negotiations had been ongoing for weeks before the governor finally made his decision public.

Speaking after his defection, Governor Eno said his move was driven by a desire to align Akwa Ibom with the federal government for greater developmental synergy.

“My commitment has always been to the people of Akwa Ibom. After deep reflection and consultations, I believe this is the path to accelerate the growth and development we envision for our state,” he said.

Governor Eno was elected in 2023 under the PDP platform and had often reiterated his loyalty to the party.
