Concerned by the poor standard of infrastructure inside the Ekiti State University (EKSU), the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has pledged a N100 million donation to assist the institution in fixing the dilapidated infrastructures to meet global standards.
Aside from that, Akpabio promised that the road linking the institution from the Ekiti university would be rehabilitated by the Federal Government and funds expended by the state government to repair the road would be returned by the Federal Government.
He made the donation on Saturday at the institution’s convocation ceremony where the Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and other personalities were bestowed with honorary doctorate degree awards.
The lawmaker stressed that no varsity could produce best brain without better infrastructures to aid their learning ability, appealing for more investment into the country’s education sector.
He said: “We cannot have the best brain and, best educational facility and not have better infrastructure. The federal Government will partner with the state government and even the 17 kilometers that have been done will be refunded to Ekiti state.
“Ekiti people are good people. I understand that whenever you open the doors of schools, the prison doors are shut. The institution is so organised, but you need maintenance. so, on a personal note, I will donate N100 million to assist the institution address its maintenance issues.
“I hereby direct that the road from the airport, which is a federal road, must be appropriated for before my next visit”, he added.
The senate president, meanwhile, urged the graduand to maintain positive mindset and apply knowledge gained while in school to achieve their aspiration in the sector they desired to flourish.
“To the graduates, your attitude determines your altitude. I urge you to make the best use of what you have learnt here and I can assure you that the future will be bright, and Nigeria will be better for it.
