As part of intensified efforts to identify individuals aiding banditry activities in the state, operatives of the Jigawa Police Command have apprehended no fewer than 14 suspected drug dealers supplying bandits with illicit substances in five Local Government Areas of the state.
The officers recovered more than 8,000 assorted illicit drugs and cash valued at over N200,000 from the suspects during the operation across the area.
Spokesperson for the Command, Shiisu Lawan, disclosed on Tuesday that the men were apprehended across Dutse, Guri, Babura, Kanya Babba, Bulangu, and Yankwashi divisions following intelligence gathering.
“The coordinated operations, carried out based on credible intelligence, led to the recovery of a total of 8,271 pieces of assorted illicit drugs. These include Exol, D5, Tramadol, Diazepam, rubber solution, ‘suck and die,’ and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
“In addition, the operatives recovered a cash sum of N235,225, believed to be proceeds of illicit drug sales, which has been registered as a monetary exhibit,” he said.
Lawan added that the suspects are cooperating with investigators by providing useful information that could aid in uncovering their supply chain and other accomplices.
He said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Dahiru Muhammad, commended the operatives for their professionalism and commitment to the fight against illicit drugs.
According to him, the commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s resolve to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations to ensure a drug-free Jigawa State.
Lawan urged members of the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities in their communities, adding that the suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
