The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa Command has disclosed that its sustained enforcement drive over the past year culminated in the prosecution of 125 criminal cases, showing the Command’s commitment to tackling violent and property-related crimes.
According to the Corps, the cases spanned rape, vandalism, theft, culpable homicide, and other offences, attributing the improvement to a proactive crime-prevention framework adopted by the Command.
Speaking while reviewing the Command’s annual performance, the Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Ingawa, said the cases were handled between January and December 2025 in Jigawa State, adding that the figure represents a decline compared to the previous year.
“Our emphasis has shifted from reaction to prevention, and this has significantly reduced crime trends when compared with 2024,” he said.
Beyond prosecutions, the Commandant revealed that over 9,000 private security guards were trained during the year, particularly those assigned to schools and other sensitive public and private facilities.
He noted that the training enhanced surveillance capacity and improved coordination at the community level, adding that the command foiled 30 attempted vandalism attacks targeting power infrastructure, water facilities, and other public assets.
According to him, these interventions, which also led to the recovery of several items from suspects, helped avert disruptions to essential services across the state.
Ingawa further acknowledged the role of collaboration, citing support from the Jigawa State Government, sister security agencies, and local communities.
“Security is a shared responsibility, and the cooperation we receive has strengthened our operations,” he stated.
The Commandant meanwhile reassured residents of the Corps’ continued commitment to safeguarding lives and infrastructure, stressing that efforts would be intensified to ensure lasting peace and stability across the state and the country at large.
