With preparations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage underway, the Jigawa State government has begun medical examinations of prospective pilgrims, as part of efforts to ensure only medically fit participants from the state travel to Saudi Arabia
This proactive measure shows the state’s dedication to minimising health risks and guaranteeing that every participant is physically prepared for the rigorous spiritual journey.
The exercise, spearheaded by the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, focuses on thorough health assessments to identify and address any medical concerns that could affect pilgrims during their time in Saudi Arabia.
The screenings began yesterday at designated centres across the state, with qualified medical teams conducting detailed examinations in line with both national guidelines and Saudi Arabian health requirements.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Director General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Umar Labbo, emphasised the importance of the initiative.
āPilgrimage is not only a spiritual obligation; it is also physically demanding. Our responsibility is to ensure that every pilgrim from Jigawa is medically fit to cope with the journey,ā Labbo said.
He added: āSaudi authorities are clear on this matter. Only pilgrims who meet the required health standards will be allowed to perform Hajj, and we are aligning fully with those standards.ā
Labbo assured intending pilgrims that the process would remain transparent and impartial, with no exceptions or favouritism in applying the medical criteria.
The boardās Director of Operations, Muhammad Garba, reinforced this commitment, stating: āThe integrity of this exercise matters to us. Every result will be based strictly on medical findings, nothing else.ā
Many intending pilgrims welcomed the early screening, describing it as a reassuring step. Aisha Mohammed, preparing for her first Hajj, said: āThe doctors were calm and professional. It made me feel that the board truly cares about our well-being.ā
Another prospective pilgrim, Abdullahi Yusuf, shared: āThis is a dream I have waited years for. The screening was detailed, but I understand why it is necessary. I am hopeful everything turns out well.ā
The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has called on all registered pilgrims to fully cooperate with the medical teams, stressing that early compliance and preparation are essential for a safe, successful, and spiritually fulfilling 2026 Hajj experience.
