The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has summoned the rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a reconciliation meeting in a bid to address ongoing leadership tensions and prevent further divisions within the party.
The closed-door meeting, held at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, unites representatives from the faction supporting former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki and the opposing group loyal to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The meeting, which is currently underway, involves the Tanimu Turaki-led faction and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led group backed by Nyesom Wike. Both sides have sent senior officials to represent their interests.
Turaki arrived with members of his National Working Committee (NWC), secretariat officials, and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, while Mohammed was accompanied by members of his national caretaker committee, including the secretary, Sam Anyanwu.
The session, taking place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, seeks to mediate the standoff between the two factions and forestall any disruption ahead of party activities.
