Ikeja Electric sets deadline for customers’ tax identification submission

Ikeja Electric has given its customers a deadline to submit tax identification details to avoid disruptions in billing and possible suspension of service.

The electricity provider directed customers to provide their Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or National Identification Number (NIN) in compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025).

The update is required to ensure that all invoices, including electricity bills, meet the new statutory requirements.

According to Ikeja Electric, the measure follows the implementation of the Tax Act, which took effect on January 1, 2026, giving customers the chance to submit their details on or before February 20, 2026.

In a post on its Facebook page yesterday, the company stated that every invoice issued by a corporate entity must carry at least one recognized identification number.

The notice read: “In line with the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), all invoices must contain a valid identification detail such as TIN, CAC Registration Number, or NIN. Any invoice generated without the required information will be deemed invalid under the law. Customers are expected to comply before the stipulated deadline.”

Ikeja Electric explained that customers can submit any of the required identification details through a designated platform, ensuring seamless processing of subsequent bills.

According to the management, failure to update records may hinder invoice generation and could ultimately result in suspension of service after February 20, 2026.

It further emphasized that the measure is a statutory obligation, not a discretionary policy, and that data collection is solely for regulatory compliance.

Ikeja Electric reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory compliance and efficient service, noting that it will continue to align operations with existing laws while engaging customers to ensure a smooth transition under the new tax regime.
