IGP, Lagos community police boss meet on boosting security

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, have held high-level talks aimed at strengthening joint security operations and improving coordination among law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

The strategic meeting focused on enhancing inter-agency collaboration as a key driver for effective internal security and the protection of lives and property.

During the meeting held on Wednesday at the Force Quarters in Abuja, Oyekan stressed the importance of synergy between federal and state security structures, noting that community-based policing initiatives must align closely with national policing strategies to deliver meaningful results.

He said stronger cooperation between the Agency and the Nigerian Police Force would significantly improve intelligence sharing, response time, and operational effectiveness.

The LNSA boss also commended the IGP for his track record in modernising policing, particularly his use of technology during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.

He expressed optimism that such innovations would be expanded nationwide to strengthen crime detection and prevention.

Oyekan further called for structured training programmes for personnel of the Agency, emphasising that continuous capacity building remains critical to enhancing professionalism and operational efficiency within the corps.

In his response, Disu assured the delegation of the Police Force’s readiness to support the Agency, pledging closer collaboration in key operational areas.

He reiterated the commitment of the Police leadership to fostering synergy among security agencies as part of a broader strategy to improve safety and security across the country.

The IGP noted that partnerships with community-focused organisations such as the LNSA are essential, particularly in complex urban environments like Lagos, where grassroots intelligence plays a crucial role in crime prevention.

Also present at the meeting were senior police officials, including Margaret Ochalla, Umar Nadada, and Olabode Adeleye, as well as LNSA’s Director of Operations and Monitoring, Lateef Ajao.
