IGP deploys officers to protect Nigerians during yuletide

As Nigerians prepare for the Christmas and New Year holidays, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has assured citizens and visitors of the Nigerian Police Force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security throughout the festive season.

To this effect, Egbetokun has directed the immediate deployment of adequate personnel to strategic locations, and key areas and identified hotspots to ensure safety across all states.

In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin on Monday, these proactive measures are part of the agency’s effort to curb traffic, highway robberies, and other criminal activities during this period of increased mobility and public gatherings.

According to the statement, “The IGP’s directive includes the mobilization of officers and specialised units including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police, and the Airwing.

Egbetokun also ordered sustained raids on blackspots, criminal hideouts, and flashpoints, alongside stronger collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure holistic coverage.

Officers have been strategically posted across places of worship, markets, recreational centres, event venues, motor parks, highways, and other high-density public areas nationwide, ensuring both urban and rural coverage.

While wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the IGP urged citizens to celebrate responsibly, remain alert, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency lines.
