Idris earmarks N714M for Kebbi indigenes schooling abroad

Governor Nasir Idris has approved a total of ₦714.98 million to support the overseas education and professional training of more than 60 Kebbi State indigene students.

According to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Tunga, the funds will cover tuition, registration fees, upkeep allowances, visa extensions, and internship support for students studying medicine, pharmacy, and allied medical sciences abroad.

“Governor Idris is determined to ensure that our students receive world-class education and practical exposure that will enable them to compete globally,” Tunga said.

Of the approved amount, ₦247.5 million has been allocated to students enrolled at Subharti University, GD Goenka University, and Jaipur National University in India. The funding covers tuition, registration, internship placements, and visa extension fees.

An additional ₦70.21 million has been released specifically for students pursuing pharmacy and allied medical courses at Jaipur National University and GD Goenka University.

In Egypt, 25 Kebbi students studying medicine across seven universities will receive ₦117.68 million as upkeep allowances.

Meanwhile, ₦349.73 million has been approved for 35 students heading to Ethiopia to study medicine and pharmacy, covering their registration, tuition, and living expenses.

Tunga noted that all the approvals, disbursed in January, reflect the governor’s sustained commitment to strengthening the state’s education and health sectors.

He also announced the appointment of Muhammed Musa as the pioneer Provost of the Kauran Gwandu College of Midwifery Sciences, Ambursa, describing the move as a step toward expanding Kebbi State’s medical education capacity.

“The ministry will continue to build on Governor Idris’ educational development initiatives to ensure that Kebbi students benefit fully from these strategic investments,” the commissioner added.
