The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber and recovered two stolen motorcycles in a renewed clampdown on criminal activities across the state.
The arrest, according to the police, followed sustained intelligence-led operations targeted at dismantling criminal networks involved in motorcycle snatching and other related offences within Ondo State.
The suspect, identified as Okemini, a 31-year-old male, was intercepted by operatives of the Ore Division on December 11, 2025, during a stop-and-search operation in the Ore area of the state.
Two other suspects believed to be members of the same gang reportedly escaped, abandoning two motorcycles at the scene.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly specialize in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public in different parts of the state.
The recovered motorcycles have been registered as exhibits, while the arrested suspect remains in police custody.
The police said the suspect has made useful statements that are aiding ongoing efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang. Further investigations are ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, emphasized the effectiveness of intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations in curbing criminal activities.
The Commissioner further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders to remain proactive and vigilant, particularly during and beyond the festive season, to ensure sustained security coverage.
The Ondo State Police Command urged members of the public to continue cooperating with police operatives and to promptly report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station, assuring residents that adequate security measures have been put in place before, during, and after the yuletide period.
